UTM soccer camp
to use shuttle buses

In conjunction with its two summer camp dates, the UT Martin soccer team is offering a free bus shuttle to and from the Skyhawk facilities for several local schools.
The first 25 participants who sign up for the all-day camp from Dresden Elementary, Paris Elementary, Ridgemont Elementary, Lake Road Elementary, South Fulton Elementary, Union City Middle and Inman Middle schools will all receive a free bus ride on June 4-7 and July 30-Aug. 2.
Once each day’s camp session is completed, the bus will load up once again and take the children back to their respective schools.
At the camp, the participants will enjoy quality soccer training but will also enjoy two days of swimming to go along with fun and unique games throughout the camp’s duration. The children will be well-cared-for and experience a wide array of fun and challenging activities.
These camps are encouraged for both boys and girls, ages 4-15. The free bus roundtrip is only offered to campers ages 7-15, who will participate from 9 a.m-4 p.m. The 4-6 age bracket will take part in camp from 9-11 a.m.

Skyhawk volleyball
taps into Louisville

The University of Tennessee at Martin head volleyball coach Darrin McClure has announced that Dallas Zimmerman, a 6-0 middle blocker out of Assumption High School in Louisville has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Skyhawks next fall.
Zimmerman is the fifth member of UT Martin’s 2012 signing class and fourth from Derby City. She will join Assumption teammate Chelsea Bowles, Amanda Crask (Mercy Academy) and Lynsey Hazelwood (Holy Cross High School), as well as Shelby Hoskins (New Albany, Ind.).
A four-year letterwinner under head coach Ron Kordes, Zimmerman helped lead Assumption to back-to-back state championships in 2010-11.
Last season, she guided the Rockets to a 43-1 mark — earning a No. 3 national rank on the ESPN Powerade Top 50 standings.
Zimmerman racked up 172 kills (2.4 per set) while hitting a robust .573 and adding 35 blocks during her senior campaign. For her efforts, she was named a second team all-state player, in addition to receiving all-district and all-state tournament team accolades.
UT Martin is coming off its best season in almost a decade, as its 19 victories last fall were the most for the program since 2002. The Skyhawks, who also made an Ohio Valley Conference championship appearance last season, return 10 players from last season’s squad.

OVC men’s golf
begins in Dickson

The 2012 Ohio Valley Conference men’s golf championship began this morning at the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson and will run through Saturday.
The course will be a par-72, with the yardage running 6,858 yards.
The championship will feature nine teams — Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
The annual awards banquet will be held following the first round.
