Gibson County pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning on an error and then kept Union City scoreless in the bottom half to beat the Lady Tornadoes 2-0 in prep softball Wednesday.
Brittany Parker (5-4) was the hard-luck losing pitcher as GC’s first three batters in the top half of the seventh reached, two scoring on a miscue, before Sadie Hollis came on.
Parker had a solid effort, allowing just five hits while striking out two, walking two and hitting two batters. Hollis had one strikeout.
Union City (17-10) managed just two hits, both by Bettye Claire Beachum.
The Lady Twisters host McKenzie this afternoon.
South Fulton boosters
schedule meeting
The South Fulton High School and Middle School Athletic Booster Club will meet 6 p.m. Monday in the school’s library.
All parents, coaches, administrators, booster club members and supporters of Red Devils athletics are urged to attend, according to a club spokesman.
Weekly ‘Pop’ event
decided by 2 strokes
Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 8-under par.
Members of the winning team included Matt Russell, Bobby Russell, Rick Smith, Robert Huffstutter and Bruce Culver.
Finishing in second at 6-under par was the team of Zach Bell, Ben Noles and Larken Johnson.
The scramble, which is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, includes the 9-hole event and dinner afterward.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday and participants are encouraged to call the club by 5:15 each week. For more information, call 885-3650.
MTSU adds 5 years
to Davis’ contract
MURFREESBORO (AP) — Coach Kermit Davis has agreed to a five-year contract extension with Middle Tennessee that runs through the 2016-17 season.
Athletic director Chris Massaro announced the deal Wednesday, saying continuity is the best way for the Blue Raiders to accomplish their goals.
Davis took the Blue Raiders to a school-record 27 wins this season.
