A UT Martin employee was charged Friday with aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm on state property.
University police arrested Rhonda Jones, 48, of Jackson after she allegedly threatened another employee with a handgun outside of Clement Hall on the Martin campus.
No one was injured in the incident, and no early warning text alert was sent to students, faculty and staff as university police responded quickly to the situation and secured the area immediately.
Jones is a research associate in the university’s Student Success Center. She was placed on administrative leave with pay and suspended from working at the university.
She is also prohibited from returning to campus without written permission from the UT Martin Department of Public Safety.
Jones is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Weakley County General Sessions court. The investigation is continuing.
