Union City, Central field high finishes

Five Union City High School track performers and two more from Obion County Central qualified for the Class A-AA West Sectional meet in Memphis next week with Top 4 showings in the field event portion of the sub-sectional meet Tuesday at War Memorial Stadium.
A handful of other thinclads from UC will try to join them on Thursday after placing in the Top 6 in the running preliminaries.
Jackie Hudson, a state participant last year as a freshman in both the shot put and discus, won the shot (32’1.5”) and finished third in the discus (95’8.5”) to move within one step of returning to this year’s Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.
Jasmine Dysart (31’09”) was second in the shot and also punched her ticket to Shelby County next Thursday.
D’eLishia Olds placed third in the girls’ high jump with a leap of 4’10”, to give the UC girls three participants in next week’s sectionals.
Obion Central’s Brenna Wilkins (14:26.79) was second in the 3200 meter run, with teammate Nicole Storey fourth (15:45.65) in that competition to also move on.
The Lady Tornadoes are third with 33 points after seven field events among 17 teams heading into Thursday’s running finals. Central is right behind UC with 23 points in fourth place.
Union City freshman Tristen Jernigan was second in the discus with a toss of 124’2.5” to secure his spot in the Memphis field in boys’ competition.
Distance runner Daniel Williamson was second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:17.17 in qualifying.
The Union City boys are fourth with 26 points, behind Dyersburg, Fayette-Ware and Covington in the team competition after Round 1.
The Tornadoes will look for more points in Thursday’s running finals after DeAndrez Williams won the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.92, placed second in the 200 meter dash (22.92) and came in fourth in the 100 meter dash at 11.39 — all in preliminary competition.
Donte Simpson (17.45) was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles to earn a spot in Thursday’s finals.
On the girls’ side, Xavier Gilliam was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.51 and third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.47.
She will run both of those races again on Thursday.
