A spokesman for Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council is advising residents of Obion and the surrounding area that Obion Mayor Glen Parnell has announced that the town will no longer serve as a distribution site for commodities provided through the council. Recipients in that area who need to receive the food items must come to the 1015 East College St. in Union City location to get them, according to Sarah Kay.
The Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council, in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture, will be distributing commodity foods Monday for South Fulton recipients at South Fulton Municipal Complex from 9 a.m.-noon; Tuesday for Hornbeak and Samburg recipients at the Hornbeak City Hall from 9 a.m.-noon and Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon for Union City, Kenton and Obion recipients at the address noted above. Service will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recipients must have their green card. Those who do not have a card will need to bring proper proof of income for everyone who lives in the household. No applications will be accepted without verification.
Due to a shortage of inventory of some food on hand, a recipient may not receive the same number of items as someone else if a “good” item runs out.
