Skyhawks’ Barksdale
on RB Watch List

Tevin Barksdale, the rising senior running back at UT Martin from Bowling Green, Ky., has been named to the 2012 College Football Performance Award (CFPA) Running Back Watch List.
Barksdale rushed for 685 yards and eight touchdowns this past season, ranking as the OVC’s 10th leading rusher.
The rising senior has rushed for 1,226 career yards and 12 touchdowns on 204 carries.

Trio of aces fired
at Persimmon course

Three hole-in-one shots have been recorded in recent weeks at Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon.
Jimmy Wright of Dresden, Donnie Davis of Martin and Jerry Carpenter of Martin all aced holes at the course recently.
Wright, 79, notched his fifth ace on April 21 when he used a pitching wedge on the par-3 No. 9, which measures 95 yards.
The shot was witnessed by Randall McGowan, Ricky Carter, Scott Smith and Gary Smith.
Davis’ hole-in-one came May 4 on par-3, 106-yard No. 3.
He used a 9-iron, and the shot was witnessed by Glen Crocks, Lonnie Hazelwood and Gene Crutchfield.
Carpenter followed Davis by two days, using a 7-iron from the 125-yard tee on No. 9.
Carpenter’s son, Scott, witnessed the shot.

UT Martin softball
offers two camps

The UT Martin softball program will conduct two summer camps, May 29-31 and June 12-13, at Bettye Giles Field.
The three-day camp May 29-31 is for players ages 6-13 and runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day. Entry is $75 per camper and includes a T-shirt and insurance coverage.
In addition, UTM coaches Donley Canary, Sarah Daws and Daniel Farmer will offer an advanced hitting and pitching camp each afternoon for campers ages 6-13 for a fee of $80.
Players can sign up for both camps for a full day package of $125. Campers must bring their own lunch and will be under the supervision of camp staff. Special activities between sessions will include games, movies and swimming.
The June camp is for players age 14 through graduating high school seniors.
Running from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., the camp costs $125 and includes hitting, fielding, base-running and other aspects of the game.

Catfish tourney
on Reelfoot Lake

Reelfoot Lake Tourism Council is hosting its 10th annual Catfish Tournament June 16.
Anglers will have a chance to win the $1,000 guaranteed first-place prize, regardless of entries. There is a 100 percent payback on the $10 big fish and second big fish, while other places paid out will depend on the number of entries.
The entry fee of $100 per two-man boat includes a $10 big fish entry and is non-refundable.
Registration, slated for 5:30-6:30 a.m., and weigh-in will be held at White’s Landing.
