Trendsetter tops 2
in main event win

“The Trendsetter” was good enough to beat two.
Jon Michael won a handicap match over “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony and Rebecca Raze when he powerbombed Raze to get the pin in Saturday night’s NWA Warriors of Wrestling main event.
Other matches saw “The Marvel” Stan Lee defeat “3g” Eric Wayne, Psycho win by disqualification over EMT 1 when EMT 2 interferred, Joseph Borne defeat both the Fabulous Rocker and the Tornado in a Triple Threat Match and the EMTs beat The Asylum.
This week continues the Legend Series with Ricky Morton, one half of the Rock-n-Roll Express, and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, one half of the Mid-Night Express, appearing.
The main event will feature Michael vs. Anthony in a Union City Street Fight, Morton vs. Rocker in a second main event and Borne vs. Bull Bronson in a special challenge match.

Skyhawk golfers
lauded for conduct

UT Martin’s golf team is the recipient of the 2011-12 Team Sportsmanship Award, the Ohio Valley Conference recently announced.
Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are given to the conference squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.
The 2011-12 school year marks the seventh year the team sportsmanship honors have been awarded. It marks the first award for either golf program.
UT Martin finished fifth at the OVC Men’s Golf Championship this year.

Peay, EKU head up
OVC baseball field

The 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Baseball tournament field is now set.
The event will be held Wednesday through Saturday with a final game Sunday, if necessary, at Pringles Park in Jackson.
This year marks the third year in a row the event will be held at the venue, which is home of the Jackson Generals, the AA-affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky each finished with identical 19-7 league records, sharing the OVC regular season championship, the first time the league has had co-champions since 1997.
With a 2-1 series win during the season, Austin Peay (34-21, 19-7 OVC) won the tiebreaker with EKU and earned the No. 1 seed for the tourney.

UTM softballers
named all-region

UT Martin softball players senior Chelsea Jones and junior Leah Taylor were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association 2012 NFCA Division I All-Region team, honoring student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions.
A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.
