The Messenger 05.28.12

Sign-up is still under way for a course in basic digital photography camera operation and skills being offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays June 7-28 at the Obion County Public Library in Union City.
The class is sponsored by the University of Tennessee at Martin Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies.
Basic digital photography will allow participants to make the most of their digital camera operations and use its advantage to improve their photographic skills.
Roger Hughes, course instructor, will focus on camera features and functions, exposure, composure, depth of field, focus, photography ideas, exercises in lighting and portrait, landscape, action and close-up shots. Students must bring a personal camera, its operations manual and a tripod.
Hughes is a retired special agent in charge for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He is a 30-year veteran criminal investigator of the TBI’s Criminal and Drug Investigation divisions.
After years of photographing major crime scenes, evidence and surveillance targets, he began studying fine art imaging at the University of Tennessee and Rocky Mountain School of Photography and under the mentorship of three acclaimed wildlife and nature photographers.
He is past president of the Northwest Tennessee Photography Club.
The registration fee for the class is $105 per person. To register, contact ECOS at (731) 881-7083, or register online at http://www.utm.edu/departments/ecce/nondegree/home.php.
The 12-hour basic course is the basis for the follow-up advanced digital photography skills class, which will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays July 12-Aug. 2 at the Obion County Public Library.
