The Tennessee Department of State Division of Elections announced Wednesday Gov. Bill Haslam has signed a bill which amends the law regarding absentee voting and who may request an absentee ballot.
Before the amendment, a person had to be 65 years of age or older to request an absentee ballot. The amendment now allows those who are 60 years and older to request an absentee ballot.
The bill is expected to help those who need are 60 years and older with a driver’s license, but are exempt from having a photo on their license. People who are 60 years and older can now vote by absentee ballot, which would eliminate their need to show a photo I.D.
Voters wanting to vote absentee through the mail may apply for an absentee ballot and request from the Weakley County Election office seven days before an election day.
The next election will take place Aug. 2 and will include Weakley County’s General Election, along with the primary elections of State and Federal Democratic and Republican candidates.
