Belmont falls twice
in NCAA regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. — Belmont fell to Louisiana Monroe 6-3 on Saturday afternoon, eliminating the Bruins from the 2012 NCAA Regional Championships in Baton Rouge.
A three-run eighth inning was too much for Belmont (39-24), as the Bruins finish the year with a program-best 39 wins.
Belmont began stringing things together in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 3-3.
Freshman Matt Beaty, from Dresden, and junior Judah Akers recorded back-to-back singles to center field to open the frame.  Freshman Alec Diamond then drove in the Bruins’ first run of the game with a single up the middle.
A single by Phillip Parsley cut the ULM lead to 3-2. Dylan Craig’s sacrifice fly tied the game.
Belmont totaled three runs on six hits and one error.
The Bruins also had six hits in Friday’s 2-1 loss to Oregon State.
Belmont will move to the Ohio Valley Confer-ence for the 2013 season.
