Lee-Bronson feud
in grudge match
The grudge between Stan Lee and Bull Bronson has now resulted in a grudge match.
Following Lee’s disqualification win over Bronson last weekend, the two will face off in the main event this weekend as part of a tag team grudge match.
Lee will be joined by Jon Michael, while Bronson will team with “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony as the main event on the local NWA wrestling card Saturday night in Union City.
Anthony interfered in last week’s match, leading to Lee’s win.
Other action last week saw Michael, the NWA Mid-South Heavyweight champion, beat The Chocolite Machine, The Fabulous Rocker defeat Rockin’ Randy, and The Tornado pull off the upset with a pin on Anthony. The EMTs fought the team of Nauughty By Nature “Rude” and Joseph Bourne to a double DQ.
Also this week, The Tornado faces “3G” Eric Wayne while other NWA/WOWF stars will be in action.
June 23 will be a big night in Union City wrestling history as The Great American Clash will feature several pro wrestling legends.
UTM softball junior
an All-American
Junior Leah Taylor, an outfielder on the UT Martin softball team, was named to the 2012 Easton Fastpitch All-American Team Monday.
Athletes selected to the Easton All-American teams have shown power and prowess at the plate. Those named Easton All-Americans include 47 athletes from 25 institutions.
Taylor, recently named a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American, is a marketing major with a 3.96 G.P.A.
She was the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.
The Brownsville native led UT Martin to the OVC championship, the NCAA Regionals and a 39-22 record.
She led the Skyhawks with a .385 batting average, 61 runs scored, 77 hits, 10 triples and 37 stolen bases.
With 64 stolen bases, she ranks third in school history.
Scorecard playoff
settles Wynridge
A scorecard playoff was needed to determine the Wynridge Ladies Scramble winner Tuesday night after two foursomes finished at 5-under.
Sandra Cobb, Sandra Davis, Shelley Stout and LeAnne Gantt came out better on the scorecarrds to take the win.
Finishing as runner-up was the quartet of Janice Hanna, Kathy Hall, Jackie Russell and Beverly Yates.
The ladies play each Tuesday at the Troy course.
Michigan jerseys
making comeback
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — College football’s winningest school is putting three of its five retired jerseys back on the field, honoring former President Gerald Ford, Bennie Oosterbaan and Ron Kramer as “Michigan Football Legends,” this year.
Receiver Junior Hemingway wore a patch on his No. 21 jersey last season, honoring Desmond Howard as the first “Michigan Football Legend,” and Roy Roundtree will wear it this year.
A current player to be determined by the football staff will start wearing Ford’s 48, Oosterbaan’s 47 and Kramer’s 87 after each former star is honored with a ceremony.
Tom Harmon’s No. 98 and No. 11, which was worn by brothers Francis, Albert and Alvin Wistert, are the other two jerseys that have been retired.
Michigan coach Brady Hoke told Birmingham, Ala., radio station WJOX earlier in the day that one of his players would wear Ford’s retired jersey this season after a caller asked if someone would wear No. 1, made famous by Anthony Carter and later worn by Braylon Edwards.
Michigan tentatively plans to put Oosterbaan’s jersey back into circulation on Sept. 8 during the home opener against Air Force, Kramer’s the next week against Massachusetts and Ford’s on Oct. 13 against Illinois in the homecoming game.
Ford, Oosterbaan, Kramer will be honored in an area of Schembechler Hall when it is renovated and with lockers at the football facility named after the late coach and at Michigan Stadium.
