UTM’s Moore 3rd
at rodeo nationals

Senior Heather Moore has made the trek to Casper, Wyo. every June for the past four years.
This year’s trip was the best as the UT Martin barrel racer from New Johnsonville, turned in a blistering 14.02 in the championship short round of the College National Finals Rodeo.
Moore finished third in the championship short round and sixth in the nation. She was just one of four UT Martin rodeo contestants to compete in the championship short round Saturday night.
Jordan Thrasher finished eighth in the tie down roping in the championship short round with a time of 10.6. He also finished eighth in the nation in the event.
Ben Walker and Clark Adcock finished second in the team roping in the championship short round with a time of 6 seconds. Walker and Adcock finished fifth in the nation.
The UT Martin men’s team finished 24th in the nation, while the women finished 27th.

Washington rider
headed to Martin

The UT Martin Equestrian team has added Western rider Taylor Evans to its roster. Evans will begin competing for the Skyhawks this fall.
“I am very excited that Taylor chose UT Martin,” said Ashley Thompson, UT Martin assistant equestrian coach.
Evans, who prepped at Henry M. Jackson High School, is from Bothell, Wash. She won the 2011 Northwest Coordination Committee (NWCC) Reserve High-Point, the Washington Paint Horse Association year-end high point, and the APHA Youth Championship and Youth Halter high-point.
“Taylor comes from a family of accomplished athletes and coaches and will come in in with a great understanding of the dedication and passion needed to be a strong contributor to the team,” Thompson said.
She will compete for UTM in Horsemanship.

Racer linebacker
makes watch list

Murray State junior linebacker Qua Huzzie was selected to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards FCS Linebacker Award Watch List recently.
Huzzie becomes the third Racer to be named to the watch list at their respected position, joining quarterback Casey Brockman and defensive lineman Kevin Robinson.
Huzzie (LaGrange, Ga.) made an immediate impact in his first season as a Racer as he recorded an Ohio Valley Conference-best 14 tackles-for-loss.
In 10 games, Huzzie registered 80 tackles, 48 solo, three sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four pass break-ups.
He greeted the home fans with three tackles-for-loss and a sack in the home opener against Tennessee State. He followed it up with 10 tackles against UT Martin before posting a season-high 15 tackles against Jacksonville State.
Huzzie’s best game of the season came against Eastern Kentucky as he had 13 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, two sacks and forced a pair of fumbles.
