TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — The Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum in Tupelo is headed toward an August completion of a $4.3 million expansion.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/Kn3xhy ) that by August fans will be able to watch films and live performances in a 120-seat theater.
The museum is also adding an outdoor amphitheater with seating for 75. Rock seats have been installed and will be planted with sod to accommodate people with their own chairs.
The theater and other additions are part of phase one of the expansion, which also includes last fall’s tripling of on-site parking capacity.
The projects are funded partially by a $2.8 tourism bond bill approved by the Legislature. Local match came from city of Tupelo, the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation.
