KINGSPORT (AP) — A young Kingsport man has survived a fall from a cliff overlooking the North Fork of the Holston River.
Hawkins County Sheriff’s Detective Cliff Evans said 18-year-old Christopher Bridgman and some friends were exploring the Five Caves area on the Sullivan County side of the river Sunday when he slipped and fell onto the rocky riverbank below.
The Kingsport Times-News (http://bit.ly/Ldm Xaq) reported Carters Valley Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Mike Yates estimated Bridgman fell 60 to 70 feet.
Evans said Bridgman had several cuts and scrapes, but remained conscious and was talking with rescuers. He had been reported in fair condition Monday at Holston Valley Medical Center, but was released by late this morning.

TBI investigating fatal shooting by deputy
JACKSON (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the fatal shooting of a fleeing suspect by a Crockett County Sheriff’s deputy.
Tommy McCoy Jr. died after being shot Saturday night in Maury City.
TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm told The Jackson Sun (http://bit.ly/QaBJBx ) the Pemiscot County, Mo., Sheriff’s Office had been pursuing McCoy when he crossed the state line into Tennessee.
Authorities said Crockett County became involved in the chase when McCoy’s car nearly struck an officer who was directing traffic at a fire scene.
Helm said the chase ended on Highway 88 when the 22-year-old McCoy got out of the car and ran, but was shot.
The TBI is still trying to determine how many officers were on the scene. The name of the deputy who shot McCoy wasn’t released.
