Hoops skills camp
hosted by Central

The Obion County Central girls’ basketball skills camp is scheduled for July 23-25 at the high school.
The camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon each day. Registration will be held 8:30-9 a..m. on the first day of camp.
Cost of the camp is $35 per player and is open to players entering kindergarten through eighth grade this year.

Lake Road football
sets practice start

Conditioning practices for Lake Road junior high football players will begin Thursday at the school.
The practice will begin at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at 9 a.m., and players must have a current physical exam on file with the school before being allowed to practice.
Players should bring their cleats.
Other practice dates are July 24 and 26 and Aug. 1-3 at the same time — 7:30-9 a.m.

Union City site
of tennis tourney

The Civitan Open Tennis Tournament is schduled for July 27-29 at the Union City Courts adjacent to the middle school.
Entry fee is $15 and a can of yellow Penn or Wilson USTA tennis balls per person per event.
Entry forms, with checks made out to North West Tennis Association, should be mailed to Margie Smith at 1145 Elm Street in Union City, 38261, no later than July 24.
There will be singles and doubles brackets for boys and girls (12-and-under and 13-17), women’s singles and doubles (open), men’s singles (Open 4.5-plus, A 4.0 and B 3.5) and men’s doubles (open, A and B).
The first 50 to sign up will get a tournament T-shirt.

Ex-UTM hoops star
joins another Hall

Ronnie Armstrong, a 1988 UT Martin Athletics Hall of Famer, was one of six inductees in the inaugural Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame.
The class was inducted Monday night.
After a stellar career as an all-around athlete at Savannah Central High School, Armstrong went on to a storied basketball career (1963-65) at UT Martin, where he scored more than 900 total points.
He was a two-time All-Volunteer Conference team selection, two–time defensive player of the year and was the team Most Valuable Player in his senior year.
