Nashville – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has awarded 16 law enforcement agencies across the state of Tennessee with state-appropriated grant money to use exclusively for Crimestoppers programs at the local level.
Among those, Weakley County Crimestoppers will receive $6,250.
TBI began taking applications in June after the 107th General Assembly appropriated a sum of $100,000 to be awarded to local governments to institute a Crimestoppers program or enhance an existing program.
TBI was charged with administering the grant funds. All agencies who applied received $6,250.
The grant funds stipulated that no more than 20 percent of the money awarded to applicants may be used for administrative costs, supplies, equipment or advertisement.
Eighty-percent of the money awarded must go directly to rewards for the Crime Stoppers program. The $6,250 each is receiving will be broken down into $1,250 for supplies, advertising, equipment, administrative costs and $5,000 for rewards.
