SFMS rallies in 4th
to beat Murray

South Fulton rallied twice in the fourth quarter and ultimately nipped Murray 30-26 Saturday afternoon in middle school football action.
Kody Davidson’s 15-yard run and a two-point conversion by Jyriq Jones late in the game provided the final margin for the Jr. Red Devils, who improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Zaccius Mayes’ 6-yard scoring run and Jones’ conversion had put SF up 22-20 earlier in the period before the host team answered with its own TD to take a four-point advantage.
South Fulton had actually come from behind early in the contest, too, rallying from a 14-0 deficit after the first quarter.
Jones had a five-yard scoring jaunt, while Davidson returned an interception 55 yards to paydirt with Jones then adding the two-point play.
Davidson finished with 101 yards on the ground and also tacked on 88 more on kickoff returns. He was a standout on the defensive side, too, with nine tackles and a fumble recovery.
Jones, meanwhile, added 94 yards rushing and Mays chipped in with 73.
Hunter Hamilton and David Madding had four tackles apiece for SF.

UC, OC runners
fare well in meet

Union City had the top boys’ runner, while Obion Central had three of the top 15 girls’ runners at the West Tennessee Jamboree cross country meet on Saturday.
The event, laid out on a two-mile course, was held at Jackson State Community College.
Daniel Williamson topped a field of 132 boys’ runners with a time of 9:47 to get his Golden Tornado senior year off to a fast start.
Rachel Jones placed eighth, Nichole Whitson was ninth and Tia Parks was 10th for the Lady Rebels.
There were 99 girls in the meet.
Alex Terrell finished 18th for the Rebel boys.
Not team results were kept because of the short distance.

Another LLWS win
for Goodlettsville

SOUTH WILLIAMS-PORT, Pa. (AP) — Jayson Brown drove in two runs with a two-out triple and Brock Myers followed with a two-run homer to help unbeaten Goodlettsville defeat Petaluma, Calif., 9-6 on Sunday at the Little League World Series.
With the score tied 5-5, Brown lunged after a high 1-2 pitch for the clutch hit just past diving first baseman Danny Marzo down the right field line.
Myers then smacked his homer to left.
The 12-year-old shortstop raced around the basepaths in delight, arms oustretched as his happy teammates waited for him at the plate.
Tennessee’s outburst overcame Petaluma’s own power surge. California slugged four homers, including Cole Tomei’s blast with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
But reliever Jake Rucker got a groundout with a runner on first to end the game.
