Ann Romney appreciative of support from Eastwood

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Ann Romney says she appreciates the support Clint Eastwood gave her husband’s presidential bid, even if the actor’s bizarre monologue at the GOP convention isn’t earning rave reviews.
Romney told “CBS This Morning” on Friday that she didn’t know what to expect when Eastwood came on stage Thursday night as a warm-up act. Eastwood’s rambling conversation with an empty chair representing an imaginary President Barack Obama drew laughs in the convention hall, but has been widely mocked by critics.
Romney chuckled during awkward pauses both times she was asked about Eastwood.
“He’s a unique guy and he did a unique thing last night,” she said when asked whether she thought Eastwood’s appearance was a distraction or a mistake.
Eastwood’s routine lasted twice as long as scheduled, cutting into the hour of prime-time coverage for Republicans. The actor’s performance also cut into Friday morning coverage of Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech.
Asked if she was surprised by Eastwood’s performance, Romney laughed during another pause.
“I didn’t know it was coming,” she said, then changed the subject. “Again, I can tell you we’re grateful for everyone’s support and especially grateful for what a great night it was last night.”
Romney agreed that she would rather have seen the biographical video about her husband’s life aired in prime time instead.
“I do wish more people had seen those touching moments,” Romney said.
