Brittany Rich
Activity Director
The August theme was Hollywood Première. The activity room was decorated with gold and silver stars, movie posters, captions signs, sparkling centerpieces, confetti and themed plates and cups.
Residents enjoyed a theme-packed week with lots of games and parties.
Bobby Bynum took first place at our popcorn toss and his runner up was Barry Flowers.
Later that afternoon, everyone enjoyed fresh popped popcorn while watching the movie “Million Dollar Baby.” We also had a classic movie hour on Monday evening featuring a black and white classic.
Showbiz Buzz trivia was a lot of fun and allowed the residents to express their movie knowledge.
Dorothy Larson was the champion of our star toss, with Ray Crowell coming in second.
On Friday, the residents started off taking celebrity pictures. Everyone got dressed up and picked out festive hats to have their keepsake photo made.
Later that afternoon, we had our Hollywood VIP party. The residents enjoyed a variety of pizza and soft drinks. For dessert, they were served Golden Globes or vanilla ice cream scoops covered in caramel syrup.
The Cover Card winners were Mary Clark, Vivian Edwards (2), Leola Rawls (2), Bonnie Carney, Sue Bailey, Blanche Bullock, Jerrie Benderman, Modene Newberry, Bobby Bynum and Barry Flowers. Each of these players received $1 for completing their entire cards first.
For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, each participant leaves with a prize. The prizes were 50 cents and a chance at the prize bin, filled with lots of goodies.
The residents have participated in five different sporting events.
First place for these events was dominated by two gentlemen.  Ray Crowell took first place in basketball shootout, fling it and can toss. Bobby Bynum was the champion of hockey and splat ball.
Everyone did a fantastic job and brought out the fierce competition.
The August prayer breakfast was held Aug. 23. Seventeen residents were in attendance for the country ham breakfast and devotional.
The dietary department did an outstanding job preparing the delicious breakfast.
Bro. Virgil Allen conducted the services and prayer before the meal. This program is looked forward to all month long.
The residents have two social gatherings this week. They gathered for “Tell Me All About It” on the front porch Wednesday morning.
They discussed past interests, hobbies and memories while enjoying the beautiful weather.
On Friday afternoon, everyone enjoyed popsicles while watching a Gaither’s music special.
Three terrific musical performances were held for the residents.
Martha Hayes was with us Aug. 17 for a great show. She did a wonderful job and everyone loved singing along.
Residents were delighted to have Bill Brewer back with us on Saturday afternoon. He does a wonderful job and is a joy to have each month.
Friends of Carmen Kelley finished out the performances with a grand showcase of talent.
They are so gifted and we appreciate them providing the program each month.
Dresden’s First United Methodist Church had other sister churches join them on Tuesday for a wonderful program.
Bible Union Baptist Church provided the Wednesday evening services.
Sunday morning serviced were conducted by Dresden First Baptist Church and Liberty Church of Christ.
Finishing out the worship services were members for Adams Chapel Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon.
We are so grateful to have each of you taking time out of your busy schedule to provide in house worship services for our residents.
