Mustangs beat LR, weather

Turns out, Ridgemont had more than enough time.
The Mustangs scored 40 points in the first half on the way to a 46-8 win over Lake Road in junior high football action at the LR field on Thursday afternoon.
The game was stopped with 3:06 to play in the third quarter due to the storm that passed through the area.
The only other local game to be played was not a good result as Hillcrest suffered a 38-0 loss to Dresden.
South Fulton was ahead of Heath 6-0 when play was called in the first quarter.
Bruce Ragsdale tossed three touchdown passes as the Ridgemont jumped out to a 24-0 lead after one quarter, his big night beginning on the game’s first play.
Ragsdale hit a wide open Jaylee Hobbs with a 60-yard TD toss with still 7:44 to play in the opening period. He then tossed two TD passes within 30 seconds of each other as he hit Trey Summers from 20 yards out at 1:34 and Heath Cary for 23 yards at 1:06.
The Mustangs’ second score was set up by a 35-yard completion from Ragsdale to Alden Marvin, and the third came after Ridgemont recovered a pooch kick.
Brandon Swift, Ragsdale and Luis Camacho all had two-point conversion runs in the quarter.
Ridgemont started the second period with a safety as Lake Road bobbled a punt snap in its own end zone at 7:13, and then JP Jones threw a 15-yard TD pass to Holden King at 6:24.
Camacho’s point-after kick was blocked, leaving the score at 32-0.
Jones set up his scoring pass with a 20-yard strike to Lexie Callins.
Callins scored on a 55-yard run at 3:33, followed by Camacho’s conversion run off a botched kick snap for a 40-0 lead.
The Generals got on the scoreboard with 20 seconds to play in the first half when Ian Ferguson broke outside for a 38-yard touchdown scamper. Thomas Mathis added the conversion for a 40-8 difference.
Ridgemont’s final score came at 4:26 of the third when Braden Griffin ran in from six yards out.
Defensively for the Mustangs, Emmanuel Morgan had four big hits to lead the squad.
Now 4-0, Ridgemont will host Hillcrest on Thursday, kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
In the night’s other game, Jamison Albright had 21 yards on four carries for Hillcrest.
Red Devil middle school head coach Jeremy McFarland said he is trying to find a date to finish his squad’s game with Heath.
