Roundhouse Reunion offers music, food, fun and friends

The best music in the world — golden oldies, country and hits from the early days of rock and roll — will be free for listening, singing, toe tapping and maybe a little dancing Sunday beginning at noon at the Blue Bank picnic area at Reelfoot Lake State Park.
The annual Roundhouse Reunion, celebrating the glory days of rock and some of the best country songs around from the 1950s and ’60s, will kick off at the place many seniors in the surrounding area say call back some of their favorite memories.
Teens in the mid-20th century spent many happy hours enjoying the dance floor and jukebox that made the Roundhouse the place to be on warm summer afternoons and evenings for years.
The concession stand featuring ice cold soft drinks and good eats, the possibility of a romantic walk out over the waters of Reelfoot Lake on the pier, the chance to gossip with friends at a shady picnic table within listening distance of the music and the opportunity to see and be seen and possibly strike up a romance were all part of the allure.
The Roundhouse Reunion offers the opportunity to recall those memories and build some new ones for a new generation.
Live music from the era will be featured and the concession stand will be stocked with fried pies, hot dogs, soft drinks and more.
Picnic baskets, lawn chairs and tall tales will be welcome, organizers say. Alcoholic beverages will not be allowed.
A rain date of Sept. 23 has been set.
For more information, call William Green at (731) 446-7072 or Reelfoot Lake State Park at (731) 253-9652.
