Mrs. Smith hosts Delphian Review Club

The Delphian Review Club met recently in the home of Mrs. Richard Smith.
Mrs. Tommy Chrisp, president, presided. The roll and minutes were ready by secretary Mrs. Bill Simrell.
The ladies enjoyed a landscape projectery presented by guest speaker John Abernathy. He is an avid gardener, a member of Master Gardeners and enjoys Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He described the progression of the home remodel and the landscape reformation he helped the Simrells with beginning in 1993. He elaborated on the Goode and Italian Four Seasons statuary. He told the history of the bricks that were placed throughout the property. The original property was owned by the Osborne family in the 1800s. Most of the bricks were removed from the original homestead and used in the Simrell landscape.
Abernathy described the front rose garden surrounding the fountain. They are planted with florabundas named Pretty Lady. The north and southeast gardens are planted with various varieties of hybrid tea roses. The east garden blooms with David Austin English roses.
Abernathy was responsible for designing, planting and doing most of the brickwork during the renovation.
The group enjoyed an apple strudel with ice cream, served by Mrs. Ken Pitts.
