Obion Central had the top girls’ team and one of the best boys’ contingents at the Union City Invitational cross country meet.
Held Tuesday afternoon at Graham Park in Union City, the second annual event hosted most area schools as well as an Arkansas squad.
The Lady Rebels finished first on the strength of five medalists, while Hardin County was second and Dyersburg third.
Central’s boys, meanwhile, were third behind Greene County, Ark., and Crockett County.
Rachel Jones was third, Nichole Whitson finished sixth, Tia Parks was ninth, Brenna Wilkins placed 10th and Peyton Daniel was 14th to lead the Lady Rebs to another first-place finish.
Coleman Dunn placed 14th to medal for the Rebel boys.
Union City’s Daniel Williamson, suffering flu-like symptoms, did not compete in the event.

PREP SOCCER
Westview 1, OC 0
Emily Plunk’s goal midway through the first half was the only tally as Central dropped a defensive struggle vs. Martin.
Both teams missed penalty kicks in the second half.
Taylor Baker had seven saves in goal for the Lake Rebels, while Makenzie Vincent turned away 13 shots for Westview.
Central is now 5-4, while the Lady Chargers improved to 7-3 overall and remained unbeaten (5-0) in region play.
OC hosts South Fulton next Tuesday.
Crockett Co. 5, SF 0
The Lady Cavs dropped South Fulton to 5-3 on the season.
CC scored three times in the first half, then added a couple of insurance goals after the intermission.
Taleah Cross was credited with 26 saves in net for the Devilettes.
Mikaela Hardy had four blocks and Linda Kaye Dickerson two for SF defensively.
South Fulton’s next match is Thursday — at home vs. Trenton.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
Union City turned in a solid overall effort in a 0-2 (25-17, 25-20) loss to Mayfield in volleyball action at Mayfield on Tuesday.
Brittany Parker, Sadie Hollis, Alexis Coleman, Raven Fair, Halle Kennedy and Molly Maclin all had an ace.
Parker and Fair each had three kills, while Kennedy and Coleman had one each. Kennedy and Coleman also had two digs apiece.
Hollis led the team with 15 pass attempts and no errors.
Breanna Beard had three kills as the junior varsity team also lost 0-2 (21-11, 21-6).
The Lady Tornadoes (0-9) visit Fulton County on Thursday, the varsity-only match beginning at 6 p.m.

PREP GOLF
The Union City girls edged Obion Central by three strokes, while the Tornado and Rebel boys’ teams finished third and fourth behind Trenton and Westview in a match at Wingfoot.
Two-time state tournament participant Mollie Stone ran away from the field for the Lady Tornadoes, earning medalist honors with a 39. Her closest competition was Samantha Wallace of OC with a 51. Lady Rebel Ashlyn Runions posted a 53, while Union City’s Cailee Sinclair shot 62.
On the boys’ side, Trenton’s 170 total was two strokes better than Westview with UC posting a 190 and Central a 196.
The Chargers’ Houston Haag was the match medalist with a 38.
For UC, Cruz Kepner shot 41, Clay Treece 45, Chase Treece 49 and Devin King 55.
Ryan Middlebrook topped the Rebels’ scorecard with a 44. Cameron Green fired a 46, Korbin Hagan shot 50 and Dallas Edmiston 56.
