WC’s Fronabarger
Titans’ top coach

West Carroll’s Josh Fronabarger has been named the Tennessee Titans’ prep football coach of the week.
Fronabarger led the War Eagles to a 30-24 upset over then-No. 2 ranked Huntingdon.
WC shut out the Mustangs in the second half, scoring late for the win.
West Carroll moved into the Class 1A rankings at No. 8, while the Ponies fell to No. 6.
Scott Stidham, who led South Gibson County to a 20-19 win over Milan, also received strong consideration for the award.
The West Carroll program will receive $1,000 from the Titans Foundation, and Frona-barger will be eligible for Coach of the Year honors worth another $2,000 to the school.
Fronabarger will be a guest of the Titans at their game Dec. 30 against Jacksonville.

Tennis tournaments
slated in Union City

Union City will host a pair of tennis tournaments in the next several weeks, both to be played at the Union City Courts adjacent to the middle school.
The Northwest Tennessee Open Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, while the United Way Fall Tennis Tournament will be held Oct. 5-7.
The Northwest event, sponsored by the Union City Civitan Club, will have several singles and doubles categories for boys, girls, women and men with a mixed doubles bracket as well.
The United Way event will have many of those same divisions.
Enty fee is $20 per person for every event entered, with players limited to two events.
Entries should be sent to David Harris at 1601 West Reelfoot Ave., Union City, by 5 p.m. Oct. 1.

Skyhawk soccer
to honor alumni

UT Martin’s soccer Alumni Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 28-30 to coincide with the team’s first two Ohio Valley Conference home matches.
Head coach Phil McNamara is in his third year at the helm of the UT Martin soccer program and is coming off the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
McNamara has also led the charge for several facility upgrades at Skyhawk Field, including all new lights installed over the summer that have provided the opportunity to play night matches for the first time.
The Alumni Weekend festivities begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 28, when the Skyhawks open their OVC home slate against in-state rival Austin Peay.
All alumni will be recognized at halftime of that match against the Lady Govs, who UT Martin has not lost to since 2006.
The day of Sept. 29 will begin with a tailgate at 9:30 a.m. for the Skyhawk football game against Eastern Kentucky at Graham Stadium.
After taking in the football game at 11 a.m., a UT Martin soccer alumni game will take place at 4:30 p.m., followed by an alumni dinner.
UT Martin returns to the pitch on Sept. 30 against rival Murray State at 2 p.m.
The Skyhawk soccer alums will be recognized again at the halftime break of that match.
