Minus Sturgeon,
SF wins anyway
South Fulton bounced back from a shutout loss to Crockett County earlier in the week, edging Trenton 2-1 in prep soccer Thursday afternoon.
The Devilettes not only improved to 6-3, but did so without arguably its best player as standout Desiray Sturgeon missed Thursday’s match after suffering a knee injury against CC.
Lexi Johnson and Samantha Murray had goals for SF vs. Trenton and Taleeah Cross had 26 saves in goal for the Big Red.
Mikaela Hardy was credited with a pair of blocks, and both Emilee Goodman and Linda Kaye Dickerson also had a block.
First-year head coach Emily Belote lauded the overall play of Murray, Johnson and Sara Reams and the defensive efforts of Carly Reams.
Fulton County trip
not good for UC
Union City’s return trip to Fulton County was not the finish the Lady Tornadoes wanted.
Returning to Hickman on Thursday to finish a volleyball match that was stopped by a power outage three weeks earlier, UC dropped an 0-3 (25-14, 25-3, 25-10) decision.
Halle Kennedy was the only Lady Tornado player with an ace, and she also led the team with 18 playable passes.
Alexis Coleman had the most hits over the net with 20 attempts, while Aaliyah Daniels had two kills and Raven Fair added one.
Coleman and Calyx Clemons worked together on a block, while Fair had a block.
2-under is tops
in Hickman event
The foursome of Janis Garrigan, LeAnn Gantt, Charlotte Hall and Evelyn Whitten combined to shoot 2-under par and win the weekly ladies’ scramble at the Hickman Country Club Thursday.
There was a two-way tie for second between a group made up of Janice Hanna, Annell Goodwin and Liz Roberts, and the team of Sandra Cobb, Carole Lattus, Jackie Russell and Beverly Yates.
Whitten won the closest-to-the-pin competition on hole No. 8.
Make-up Monday
for local softball
A handful of makeup middle school softball games have been rescheduled for Monday at the Obion County Central High School field in Troy.
At 4 p.m., Ridgemont will face Hillcrest, followed at 5:15 by a game pitting R’mont and Lake Road.
Hillcrest and LR will play the last of three games at 6:30.
