Doctors to speak at health care roundtable

“If you want to find out what will happen to your health care in the future, especially as that involves Medicare, I suggest you be there.” That urging comes from Dr. Robert Cameron from the Woman’s Clinic of Union City.
Dr. Cameron will be joining Dr. Paul Nieves, also from the Woman’s Clinic; Dr. Wright Jernigan, a surgeon; Dr. John Hale, a family practice physician; and Dr. James Hall, a cardiologist, at 7 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall of Union City Second Baptist Church. The church is located at 803 North Everett Blvd.
Also appearing with the local physicians for a roundtable discussion on health care issues that will be confronting area residents soon will be Dr. Ron Kirkland of Jackson, formerly of Union City; Orma Smith, who works in the health and life division of First State Insurance; Joe Wilson, who deals with risk management at E.W. James & Sons; and a representative from Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Union City attorney John Miles will be moderating the session.
Among the issues that will be up for discussion will be:
• the ways in which recent health care changes will affect patients and their relationships with their physicians;
• the question of whether “affordable health care” will really be affordable;
• the effect “affordable health care” will have on the operation of businesses;
• the issue of whether or not private insurers will be able to survive the changes.
The opportunity to learn more about the life-changing decisions that have been made recently in Washington and how they will impact the lives of every citizen on multiple levels will be the focus at the free event, “Healthcare 2013 and Beyond.”
The public is invited to attend and encouraged to apply the important information they receive to decisions that will affect their future, a spokesman said.
