Burglaries under investigation in South Fulton and Union City
A rash of recent burglaries in the South Fulton area is being investigated by the Obion County Sheriff’s Department, while the Union City Police Department is also probing a local burglary.
Chief Deputy Kent Treece said investigators are looking into three burglary incidents that were reported over the last few days.
A rental house on Caldwell Road was reportedly burglarized sometime between Thursday and early Friday morning. Three gold rings, valued at a total of $1,000 were taken, according to Treece. Entry to the residence was gained when a back door was pried open and a glass panel was smashed, causing an estimated $300 in damage. Also taken in the burglary were two lawnmower batteries valued at $100. The batteries were located in a storage building on the property.
The local sheriff’s department is also investigating a burglary that was reported Sunday on Adkinson Road. A Troy-Bilt® tiller valued at $600 was taken, as were a Ted Williams outboard motor valued at $500, a six-volt tractor battery valued at $75 and seven other 12-volt tractor batteries valued at $350. The batteries and motor were being stored in an unsecured outbuilding on the property.
A third incident was reported to the sheriff’s department on Friday and involved several items stolen from a residence on Charles Cannon Road. Treece said taken in the burglary was a crimping tool valued at $140, Kobalt® bolt cutters valued at $30 and a Stihl® chainsaw valued at $400. Also, two tractor batteries were found removed and lying in the yard of the residence.
Anyone with information about any of the burglaries should contact the Obion County Sheriff’s Department at 885-5832.
In an unrelated burglary, more than $1,000 worth of merchandise and money have been stolen from a Union City residence.
According to a Union City Police Department report, Robert W. Wood, 29, of 715 Exchange St., Union City, on Saturday reported his home had been broken into. Among the items taken were two television sets and a pocket watch. Published in The Messenger 9.24.12
