Still No. 2 More tab Dresden atop 2A

Posted: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 12:00 pm

Dresden is convincing more people.
The Lions remained ranked No. 2 in this week’s Associated Press Class 2A football poll, receiving three first-place votes.
Two more votes for the No. 1 slot, currently held by Boyd-Buchanan, likely came as a result of Dresden’s latest win — a 28-14 verdict over Union City Friday night.
Dresden picked up 169 total points from the panel of statewide voters.
The Golden Tornadoes felt the affects of that outcome as well, falling one spot from eighth to ninth in the Class 1A poll.
Dresden improved to 6-0 with the win, one of three unbeaten teams in the 2A poll.
Boyd-Buchanan is also 6-0, getting 14 first-place nods and 190 total points. Houston County, ranked fifth, is 5-0.
Grace Christian (4-1) and Friendship Christian (5-1), ranked third and fourth, respectively, also garnered votes for the No. 1 spot, Grace with two and FCA with one.
The remainder of the 2A poll has Oneida ranked sixth, Adamsville at No. 7, Cascade rated eighth, Hampton a No. 9 and Trousdale County slated for 10th.
There was one change at a No. 1 spot this week as Greenback and South Pittsburg switched places in 1A.
All other top-ranked teams last week held their spots: Maryville (6-0) in 6A, Beech (6-0) in 5A, Giles County (5-0) in 4A, CAK in 3A and Ensworth, which is nationally-ranked in some polls, in Dvision II.
Dresden and Union City are, again this week, among numerous rural West Tennessee listed throughout the rankings.
Jackson Northside (6-0) holds the No. 2 spot in 5A, having moved up past Knoxville West, while defending state champion Henry County remained fourth this week. Hardin County also picked up votes in the 5A poll.
Covington (5-0), with three first-place votes, is ranked second, Lexington (4-1) is seventh and Dyersburg (4-1) is tied for 10th with Gibbs and Mitchell in the 4A poll.
Milan (5-1) and South Gibson (5-0) remain fifth and sixth in the 3A poll, while Huntingdon (5-1) is fifth and West Carroll (5-1) is eighth in the 1A poll. Published in The WCP 9.25.12
