UT can help perk up fall landscapes

JACKSON — Residents who have ever struggled with how to maintain a beautiful landscape during the fall and winter months should visit Autumn Fest at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson.  The event features garden tours, workshops and an amazing plant sale featuring all of the must-have plants for the fall garden.
Autumn Fest is a two-day event starting Oct. 3 with an exclusive preview party for Friends of the UT Gardens. These supporters of the university’s horticultural research program can enjoy early shopping, light refreshments and special discounts on purchases. The preview party is from 5–7 p.m.
The event picks back up Oct. 4 with garden lectures and the re-opening of the plant sale. All are welcome and admission is free. The garden tours and lecture series, which will be led by Carol Reese, UT Extension horticulturist, and Jason Reeves, UT Gardens-Jackson curator, will begin at 2 p.m. The plant sale re-opens from 3–6:30 p.m.
At the conclusion of the plant sale, all guests are invited to attend the Madison County Master Gardeners’ meeting, where Reeves will delight attendees with tales of his recent garden travels. Participants can bring their own brown bag dinner to the meeting; desserts and drinks will be provided.
With a $35 donation, attendees may become a Friend of the UT Gardens on either day of the event and take advantage of the special discount. The donations made by Friends help support many of the activities and beneficial research happening at the UT Gardens-Jackson. All Autumn Fest activities will take place at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center located at 605 Airways Blvd., in Jackson.
