Although she weighs just 60 pounds, 11-year-old Rory Detrick of Fulton bested two other competitors Tuesday afternoon to win first place in the younger age division of a Banana Festival banana split eating contest held at Pappy’s Restaurant in South Fulton. During the event, the young student from Carr Elementary in Fulton paused periodically to catch her breath and check out her competition. The ice cream eaters were not allowed to use their hands to eat the cold treats and the winner was the first person to finish their entire dessert. The Twin Cities’ Banana Festival will continue through Saturday night. A complete schedule of events is available online at www.thebananafestival.com.
