Pop’s winning team
one stroke better

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 9-under par.
Members of the winning team included Houston Haag, Jim Baker, Sid Chappell, Amos Davis and Tiger Haag.
Finishing in second at 8-under par was the team Rick Smith, Robert Huffstutter, Matt Russell, Jere Baldridge, Rodger Tanner and Barrett Tanner.
The scramble, which is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, includes the 9-hole event and dinner afterward.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday and participants are encouraged to call the club by 5:15 each week.

Lady Reb runners
top field at TCA

Obion Central won the girls’ race and finished sixth in the boys’ event at the Trinity Christian Academy Invitational cross country meet on Tuesday.
Medaling for the Lady Rebels were Rachel Jones (3rd place; 21:33), Nichole Whitson (6th; 21:59), Tia Parks (10th; 22:55) and Brenna Wilkins (15th; 23:48).
Katelyn Smith also scored for the girls’ team, finishing 26th in a time of 24:46, and won the Anchor Award for being the highest 5th-place finisher on a team.
Coleman Dunn med-aled for the OC boys with a 15th-place with a time of 18:27
Others scoring for OC were Jaime Torres (19:14), Alex Terrell (19:31), Dakota Eaves (19:49) and Austin Riley (19:50).
The girls’ event hosted 12 complete teams, while 19 squads participated in the boys’ race.
Obion Central is slated to run today at Hardin County.

LR-Lake Co. football
canceled by weather

Tonight’s Lake County at Lake Road middle school football game has been canceled due to wet weather.
The contest was to be the Generals’ final game of the season.
LR will instead end the year with Tuesday’s loss at Union City.

Grizzlies’ Arthur
benched by injury

MEMPHIS (AP) — Grizzlies forward Darrell Arthur will be out up to six weeks after breaking the top of the fibula in his left leg preparing for training camp.
The team announced the injury on Wednesday.
