Brittany Rich
Activity Director
This week was all about celebrating our residents who are out of this world.
The activity room was decorated with colorful planets, rockets, space ships and stars.
The residents participated in a variety of activities all featuring a space theme.
The winner of Flying Saucers was Ray Crowell with 125 points and the runner-up was Barry Flowers with 95 points.  Bobby Bynum was the champion at the Rocket Launch.  Ray Crowell came back to win the Shuttle Shoot with 370 points with Naomi Prince right behind him with 350 points.  For the round of Stars and Asteroids, Bobby Bynum was the first-place finisher with 47 points.
The residents participated in a trivia round called Galaxy Quest on Wednesday morning.  They did a great job answering the tough questions about astronautics.
On Tuesday afternoon, the residents enjoyed popcorn and a movie.  The residents selected to watch Space Chimps with their fresh, popped treat.
We finished the week off with a huge party.  The residents were treated with moon melt sandwiches, alien chips or bread and butter pickles if you will and extreme ranch chips.  Colorful cupcakes and lime sherbert was served for desert featuring rocket ships and space crafts.  To wash it all down, they were served Tang, the astronauts’ choice of drink.  It was a fun and exciting week for all.
This week’s cover card winners were Sue Bailey, Barry Flowers, Lucille Prince, Vivian Loveless, Ray Crowell and Linda Turner.  Each of these lucky winners received $1 for completing their entire cards first.
For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, each of the participants received a chance at the prize bin.  It is filled with tons of goodies to meet everyone’s condition.
We are so fortunate to have wonderful help and support from family members, peer residents and employees during our Bingo rounds.
The residents were treated to three wonderful musical performances this week.  Martha Hayes was with us on Friday evening for a terrific performance.  We were delighted to have Bruce Griffin on Saturday evening for the first time.  Bill Brewer was with us on Saturday afternoon.  He did a remarkable job as always.  The residents said he did a great job and we look forward to having him back with us again.
Bible Union Baptist Church conducted our Wednesday evening services.
Liberty Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church provided our Sunday morning services.
New Home Baptist Church was with us on Sunday afternoon for another wonderful program.
These services are so valuable to our residents because they are able to continue their spiritual growth in the comfort of the facility.
Thank you all for giving of your time to us.
