| Crowd enjoys Day of Discovery |

There was a steady crowd Saturday as children and adults alike enjoyed Day of Discovery at the Obion County Museum on Edwards Street in Union City.
Organizer Marti Doss told The Messenger this morning that the “kids had a big time and adults had a big time.”
She said the vendors said it was worth their time coming out for the day’s event as well.
Children interacted with American Revolutionary War re-enactors, who demonstrated cooking, writing with a pen and ink well, shooting a gun and firing a cannon. They also watched as vendors produced their wares and explored a military vehicle and an ambulance.
For a small donation, the children were able to fire an air-soft military rifle, ride a train and jump in in-flatables.
Polly Brasher with Discovery Park of America also made presentations about the new center to more than 150 people, who were excited about what it will have to offer.
“Next year we will have this out at the Discovery Park,” Mrs. Doss said.
Day of Discovery was held as part of Obion County CornFest activities.
The last scheduled event of the annual festival isn’t slated until Nov. 3, when beauties from across the state will gather at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Union City for the Miss Fall Fest Tennessee Scholarship Pageant. The winner will not only represent Obion County at the Miss Tennessee America Scholarship Pageant, she will also take home a prize package worth $3,000.
The pageant is open to young single women from ages 17-24 who are from Tennessee or who attend a Tennessee college. They will compete in evening gown, talent, swimsuit and casual wear.

CornFest events started at the beginning of September and also included a fashion show, beauty pageants, the Pride of Obion County luncheon, a chalk art contest, Cowboy Dan concert at the Obion County Public Library, Day at the Park and BBQ CornTest.
CornFest director Glenda Chrisp said the committee will meet for a luncheon next week and evaluate this year’s events, making suggestions for changes to next year’s schedule if necessary. A date will also be set for next year. “Hopefully, we won’t conflict with any other events,” she said.
