| After latest loss, Twisters barely hanging on to state rank |

Union City hung on by a thread to its state ranking.
The Golden Tornadoes, who dropped their third game in four weeks with a 30-27 loss to Trenton on Friday, edged out Collinwood for the final spot in the latest Associated Press Class 1A Top 10 released Monday afternoon.
UC, now 4-3, received 15 total points — three more than Collinwood, which has dropped back-to-back games after a 5-0 start to the season.
The Twisters will hope to right the ship in a season that started with considerable promise and high expectations with a trip to Lake County this week for a critical District 14A matchup.
Lake County is 4-2, 1-1 in league play.
Union City was ranked as high as No. 2 in the poll after its 3-0 start, but fell to sixth after its initial loss to now-No. 5 Huntingdon.
A blowout of Greenfield actually hurt the Tornadoes’ status and cost the locals two more spots before a two-touchdown defeat at the hands of Class 2A’s second-ranked team — Dresden — knocked UC to eighth.
The Twisters were ninth last week before losing a close decision to Peabody in a game they dominated statistically.
South Pittsburg moved back into the No. 1 after a week at No. 2 in close voting that saw Gordonsville, Moore County, Greenback and Coalfield all receive first-place votes from writers and broadcasters across the state.
Huntingdon (6-1) is still fifth after whipping Gleason 43-14, while West Carroll (5-2) — a 13-7 loser to Dresden in a battle of ranked teams — dropped to ninth from eighth.
Unbeaten Dresden (7-0), on the strength of that perfect record and back-to-back victories over state-ranked teams, remained at No. 2 in Class 2A.
The Lions received two first-place votes and 180 total points to trail only top-ranked Boyd Buchanan. The two teams plus Watertown are the only teams in Double-A without a loss.
Adamsville, winners of six straight since a season-opening loss to 4A Chester County, advanced one spot to sixth.
South Gibson and Milan flip-flopped at Nos. 5 and 6 despite the fact that each recorded convincing wins.
SG (7-0) is still perfect and leaped past the Bulldogs (6-1) after thumping Obion Central 41-14. Milan handled Westview 31-6.
Covington (7-0), Lexing-ton (6-1) and Dyersburg (5-1) all remained the same at Nos. 2, 7 and 10, respectively, after big wins last week.
The Chargers beat Gibson County 64-19, Lexington routed Jackson South Side 49-14, and D’burg won over Crockett County 28-7.
In 5A, an open date cost Jackson Northside the No. 2 spot, the 6-0 Indians now third behind Beech and Knoxville West.
A 41-26 loss to Clarksville Northeast knocked Henry County (5-2) from fourth to No. 9, with CNE rising four spots to sixth.
Unbeaten Hardin County, a 44-40 shootout victor over Dyer County last week, made its debut at No. 10.
University School of Jackson, a 20-point winner over Fayette Academy (34-14) inched forward to No. 7 from eighth in the Division II listing.
