Symposium Club meets

Posted: Wednesday, October 3, 2012 8:00 pm

The Symposium Club met recently in Kiwanis Park in Union City.
Vice president Linda Lu Harding served a light supper of assorted wraps, broccoli salad and cupcakes.
Mrs. Harding introduced Union City Main Street executive director Phyllis Rauchle, who gave a program about the history and the purpose of the organization. She explained the four main objectives of Main Street, which are the same as those used by the National Trust for Historical Preservation. They include organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring.
She told the club about some of the upcoming events sponsored by Main Street, including the Taste of Ken-Tenn, which is scheduled for Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Christmas Open House on Nov. 3-4 and the Community Christmas Tree Lighting and Union City Christmas parade on Nov. 26.
Mrs. Rauchle concluded her program by having the club members participate in an “Awareness of Downtown” scavenger hunt. The park and two blocks of Depot Street were used for items to be identified. Diane Riley, the winner of the hunt, received a one-year “Friends of Main Street” membership.
The next meeting will be held Oct. 18, with Elizabeth Kendall serving as hostess and Elizabeth White as program leader.
