Local man recovering from gunshot wounds; 2 jailed, including wife
By CHRIS MENEES
Special to The Press
A Weakley County man is recovering from gunshot wounds and two people — including the victim’s wife — have been charged with attempted murder.
Amber Plunk, 27, of 1040 Corinth Road near Sharon and Steven D. McMillin, 39, of 35 Atwood St., Trezevant, were arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder.
They are being held in the Weakley County Detention Center and will be arraigned in Weakley County General Sessions Court.
The charges against the two suspects stem from Tuesday’s early-morning shooting of Mrs. Plunk’s husband, Rusty Plunk, at their home at 1040 Corinth Road in rural Weakley County.
According to the Weak-ley County Sheriff’s De-partment, the county’s 911 dispatch center had received two calls from Mrs. Plunk, starting at 2:29 a.m. Tuesday, in which she told dispatchers her husband had been shot. She allegedly told dispatchers she had no idea who had shot him.
Rusty Plunk was transported by ambulance to Volunteer General Hospital in Martin for treatment of a gunshot wound to his chest and a second gunshot wound to his arm. He was later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he is expected to recover from his injuries, sheriff’s investigator Randall McGowan said.
During the course of the sheriff’s department investigation, McMillin’s name surfaced and he was picked up at his residence in Trezevant by authorities there. When questioned by Weakley County authorities, both Mrs. Plunk and McMillin allegedly admitted to their involvement in the shooting, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Mrs. Plunk allegedly told investigators she had placed a pistol outside the couple’s residence, knowing that McMillin was outside, and then awoke her husband and told him she heard a noise outside.
