Scorecard playoff
decides ‘Pop’

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team — in a scorecard playoff — shooting 6-under par.
Members of the winning team included Raymond Hendrix, Damon Campbell, Ken Courtright, Don Lyerly and John Hale.
Also shooting 6-under par was the team Rick Smith, Jim Baker, Sid Chappell, Amos Davis and Tiger Haag.
The scramble, which is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, includes the 9-hole event and dinner afterward.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday and participants are encouraged to call the club by 5:15 each week. For more information, call 885-3650.

Junior Devilettes
pound Union City

South Fulton improved to 9-5 with a 9-2 middle school softball victory over Union City on Wednesday.
Summer Britt had two hits and turned a triple play defensively to highlight the Devilette triumph.
Abby Fulcher and Brittney Proctor also had two safeties apiece for the winners, who got a two-hit pitching performance from Katie Clapper.
Taylor Crittendon tripled and Caroline Martinek had a double for UC with MollyBeth Blackwell and Ashley Brown scoring the Lady Tornado runs.
Crittendon was the losing hurler with five strikeouts.
Brown, Blackwell and Courtney Worley received special defensive mention from Union City head coach Lee Ussery.
South Fulton plays again next Wednesday in a makeup game at Ridgemont, while UC is in action again on Monday at Hillcrest.

Westview’s goals
not too late vs. SF

Westview scored all its goals in the second half in a 5-0 prep soccer victory over South Fulton Wednesday.
The contest was a makeup match from Monday when it was postponed due to inclement weather.
Taleeah Cross had 17 saves in goal for the Devilettes.
SF is now 6-6.
South Fulton’s next and final regular season match is Oct. 11 vs. Obion Central.
The Red Devilettes are now 2-2 in Region 7A-AA, positioned behind Westview, Trenton and South Gibson in the East. OC is 7-5 and 3-2, tied for second in the West.
