Johnson announces bid for Troy mayor’s seat

Ronnie Johnson of Troy is announcing his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming Nov. 6 city election.
Johnson attended the former Troy Elementary School and graduated from Obion County Central High School in 1974. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 33 years of service.
During his time with Goodyear, he held several different positions, including area manager, maintenance manager and acting business center manager.
He is owner of HTS Mixing in the Titan facility. He is married to the former Nancy McEwen of Troy. They have three children, Heather Franks of Murfreesboro, Tara Burress of Mount Juliet and Shawn Johnson of Troy. He also has five grandchildren. He is a member of Troy United Methodist Church, where he has served in several different positions.
Johnson served from the mid-1970s until the early 1990s on the Troy board of alderman, for a total of about 18 years. During his time on the board, he was instrumental in helping to obtain several improvements in the street, water, gas and sewer systems, as well as the building of the new City Hall. He was also involved in the organization and construction of Trojan Park and has continued to serve on the Troy Parks Board.
“I am looking forward to serving my community in another capacity. It will be an honor to serve the people in the Town of Troy once again. If elected mayor, my door will always be open for new ideas and suggestions. Troy is a great place to live, and I am glad to be a part of this community.
“I intend to meet every citizen from now until election day, but if I miss you, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you for your vote in the upcoming election. Again, it will be a privilege and honor to work with you,” Johnson said.
