2 charged in vandalism

Posted: Thursday, October 4, 2012 4:00 pm

Two men have been charged with theft and vandalism in connection with an incident last month at a Martin fraternity house.
Corey M. Rose, 19, and Dalton D. Jones, 18, both of Martin, were charged Tuesday afternoon after an interview with Martin police at the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Public Safety.
Each was charged with theft of property and vandalism, with an additional charge of burglary levied against Rose, according to a Martin Police Department report.
In a written statement, Rose told police he went into the Kappa Alpha fraternity house at 522 Lee St. in Martin the night of Sept. 20 and stole a large statue of a knight and two trophies. He allegedly told police he then damaged the items beyond repair.
Jones gave police a written statement in which he indicated he drove Rose to the fraternity house and was involved in the taking of the two trophies. He also allegedly told police he then destroyed the trophies.
Both young men were taken to the Martin Police Department about 4 p.m. Tuesday for booking procedures and were released on criminal summonses, according to the report.
Police had responded to the fraternity house Sept. 23 on a complaint of vandalism and theft, with the missing property described as two trophies valued at $200, a seven-foot statue of a knight valued at about $300 and two award plaques valued around $200. Three trophies valued at about $600 were also reported destroyed.
All of the items had been located in the meeting area of the fraternity house, police reported.
