Dresden locked in at No. 2

Posted: Wednesday, October 10, 2012 12:00 pm

Dresden can’t move up and refuses to fall down.
The Lions checked in as the No. 2 team in the Associated Press Class 2A state prep football poll, released Monday afternoon.
Dresden likely won’t be able to take the top spot away from Boyd Buchanan as long as the Buccaneers continue to win. Both teams are unbeaten on the season — Dresden 8-0 and Boyd Buchanan 7-0.
The Lions will try to keep their streak alive on Friday with a trip to Gleason, while the Bucs face a stern test at South Pittsburg, the top-ranked team in 1A.
Boyd Buchanan received 18 first-place votes, while the Lions picked up two.
Grace Christian and Friendship Christian, ranked third and fourth, each picked up one vote for the top spot.
The next three places in the poll stayed the same with Oneida fifth, Adamsville sixth and Hampton seventh.
Houston County and (eighth) and Cascade (ninth) switched places, while Watertown and Westwood are tied at 10th.
Trousdale County and Mt. Pleasant also received points in the poll.
The 2A poll features three teams Dresden faced on its playoff run to the BlueCross Bowl last season as the Lions defeated Westwood and Adamsville before losing in the state title game to Friendship Christian.
Every No. 1 team stayed put again this week — Maryville in 6A, Beech in 5A, Giles  County in 4A, CAK in 3A and Ensworth in Division II.
Dresden is joined by Covington and Jackson Northside as the highest-ranked area teams, the Chargers against ranked second in 4A and the Indians holding that spot in 5A.
The 5A poll also features Henry County at No. 6 and Hardin County in a tie for ninth. Lexington is sixth and Dyersburg is up two spots to No. 8 in 4A.
South Gibson is fifth and Milan is sixth in 3A, while Huntingdon is seventh, West Carroll eighth and Union City 10th in 1A. University School of Jackson is seventh in the private school poll. Published in The WCP 10.9.12
