Brittany Rich
Activity Director
As the weather starts to turn cooler, the residents are soaking up all the warmth they can from the front porch.  We have begun to get ready for fall at the facility and have started to decorate.  The residents are looking forward to carving pumpkins and all the fall fun soon to come.
This week’s Cover Card winners were Dorothy Larson, Ray Crowell, Geneva Foster, Blanche Bullock, Opal Pentecost, Modeane Newberry and Sue Bailey.  These lucky winners were the first to complete their entire cards first out of the large group of players.  For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, each participant plays until they win a selection from the prize bin.  It is filled with a variety of snacks and prizes to suit all the players’ needs and wants.
The residents participated in five different sports challenges.  Ray Crowell had a big winning week taking first place in Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, and Fling It.  Sue Bailey was the runner-up in Horseshoes with only one point separating the two.  Dorothy Larson finished second in Shuffleboard.  Linda Turner was the runner up in Fling It, but came back to win first place in Basketball on Saturday.  Hot on her heels in second was Barry Flowers.  Wednesday afternoon was Wii Time in the Activity Room.  The residents participated in bowling and a variety of carnival style games.  We had a great time watching everyone take turns competing.
There were a few very tasty activities this week.  The September Prayer Breakfast was held on Thursday morning.  Bro. Virgil Allen was our guest speaker.  He did a wonderful job delivering the short sermon and prayer.  Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious country ham breakfast prepared by the Dietary Department.  The facility wide birthday party was held on Tuesday afternoon.  White cake with white icing was served along side a big scoop of chocolate ice cream.  For Friday’s Social Hour, the residents selected chips and dip.  They enjoyed their afternoon snack while catching up and socializing with one another.
Bibile Union Baptist Church provided our Wednesday evening services.  They always do a wonderful job and the residents love having them with us.  Liberty Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church conducted the Sunday morning worship services.  They are so dedicated and provide a terrific service each week.  We have openings for more church programs and religious singings on our calendar.  These programs are so meaningful for our residents because it allows them to continue their spiritual growth when they can no longer attend outside church services.
