Posted: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 4:35 pm

Mr. Billy Gene Gurien Sr., 78, of Troy passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Oct. 20, 2012, in the company of his high school sweetheart and wife since March 21, 1975, Margaret, and his son, Billy Gene Jr. The last word he ever wrote or said was addressed to Margaret and said, simply, “sweetheart.”
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Troy First Baptist Church. Dr. Vann Kissell and Brother Larry Hitesman will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Troy First Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.
Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gurien was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Miston, son of the late Carry C. and Lockie (Ragan) Gurien. He worked for over 21 years for Charles Todd Inc. in several cities, including St. Louis, Memphis, Paducah, Ky., Mayfield, Ky., and Owensboro, Ky. Gene retired as operations manager of Gurien Finishing Company Inc. in 1991. He was an active community leader having served as a Troy city alderman and had been a member of the Mayfield Jaycees, where he was a past president. He had also served on the Graves County Chamber of Commerce and the Graves County Fair Board. An avid sportsman, including fishing and hunting, Gene won several golfing awards, including four holes-in-one at Wynridge Golf Course. He was a member of Troy First Baptist Church. His word was his bond and if you ever met him, you remembered him.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie (Arnold) Gurien; his son, Robert Carry C. Gurien; and his granddaughters, Avery Dayne Gurien and Dana Marie King.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Granny” (Jones) Gurien; three sons, Jerome Allen King of Kentucky, Billy Gene Gurien Jr. of Tennessee and David Wayne Gurien and his mother, Nell, of Tennessee; two daughters and their husbands, Paulette Louella and Randy Moseley of Kentucky and Lockie Joyle and Buster Tuck of Tennessee; four step-daughters and their three husbands, Anna Jane Howard and Mike Bishop of Texas, Jennifer Louise and Scott Denham of Georgia, Teresa Pauline and James Koon of Florida and Tammy Elaine Howard of Tennessee; one step-son and his wife, Charles Stanley and Elaine Howard of Georgia; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Patsy Gurien and Ray and Lola Hurst; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Shirley and Bob Moffitt, Judy and Butch Byars, Linda and Greg Moore, Betty Gurien and Reba Armstrong.
