Red Devils sweep
host Ridgemont
South Fulton swept past Ridgemont in junior high basketball action at the Mustangs’ gym on Monday night, winning 33-19 in the girls’ game and then 42-34 in the boys’ contest.
Tiffany Potts had a solid all-around game for the Red Devilettes with 10 points, six rebounds and seven steals.
Emma Glisson led SF in scoring with 11 points, while Madison Brown topped the team in rebounding with eight boards.
Carly Bramlett had seven points and Destiny Miller added six points to lead the Lady Mustangs.
SF (1-0) steadily pulled away, ahead 6-4 after one quarter and then widening the gap to 19-13 at the half and 25-17 after three periods.
Jyriq Jones and Zaccius Mays paced SF’s boys as Jones had 17 points, seven assists and five steals, while Mays added 15 points and six rebounds.
Angle fires ace
at Troy course
Cody Angle hit a hole-in-one Sunday at Wynridge Golf Course in Troy.
Angle aced the 306-yard No. 5 hole using a driver.

Summitt’s fast track
to Lady Vols’ Hall
KNOXVILLE (AP) — Former Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt is heading to the Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame.
Summitt joined former Lady Vols basketball player Michelle Marciniak, track star Jane Haist and golfer Young-A Yang in the class of inductees announced Friday by athletic director Dave Hart. An enshrinement ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 2.
Athletes normally are eligible for inclusion 10 years after they’ve graduated, while administrators are eligible five years after their last service to the school. The five-year rule was waived for Summitt, who stepped down in April with 1,098 career victories.
OVC soccer title
keeps UTM home
UT Martin will play host to the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference soccer tournament at Skyhawk Field Thursday through Monday.
Action begins on Thursday with a pair of quarterfinal matches. SEMO will take on Belmont at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup between Eastern Kentucky and SIU-E at 7 p.m.
The league’s top two seeds then make their tournament debuts on Friday in the semifinals. UTM will battle the SEMO/Belmont winner at 4 p.m., followed by Austin Peay vs. the EKU/SIU-E winner at 7 p.m.
An off day follows before the title match 1 p.m. on Monday.
The winner of that match earns the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
