Incumbent Obion Mayor Glen Parnell is running for his fifth and final term in office.
Parnell has announced his candidacy for Tuesday’s General Election.
He said one of his main goals if re-elected will be to address the issue of large trucks carrying ethanol through Obion. Parnell said the trucks carrying loads of liquid ethanol pose a safety risk for city residents and he would like to see an alternate route identified for the trucks.
Parnell said he continues to be concerned about Obion Grain Co. paying a lower natural gas rate than city residents.
He said one of his accomplishments as mayor was changing the system the city uses to buy natural gas, which has saved the city thousands of dollars.
Parnell said he voted against turning over the wheel tax collection to the county and most recently he voted against raising the city’s property tax rate. He said one of his goals as mayor has been to save the city money and keep the cost of living affordable for city residents.
“One thing I take great pride in is working with our veterans on their health care benefits and other issues,” Parnell said.
He is a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
“I would like to ask the citizens of Obion for their vote and support in this upcoming election,” Parnell said.
