Skyhawks pick up
OVC soccer crown

UT Martin earned its second straight OVC Tournament title with a 2-0 win over Austin Peay in the championship match Sunday at Martin.
With the win, the Skyhawks earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. UT Martin will find out who they play today during the selection show at 3:30 p.m.
Neither team could find the net in the first half as the match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes.
Alyssa Curtis got the Skyhawks on the board as she scored her fifth goal of the season in the 72nd minutes. Hannah McGowen registered the assist on the score.
Midori Sera added an insurance goal in the 81st minute off an assist from Jessica Horvatich.
UT Martin goal keeper made five saves in the shutout while Haylee Shoaff made three stops for the Lady Govs.
The Skyhawks earned a 1-0 win over Southeast Missouri on Friday to reach the finals.
Junior Mary Thompson found the back of the net in the 67th minute and the throttling UTM defense recorded its fifth shutout in the last six matches.

UTM’s Carr tops list
for several honors

UT Martin senor quarterback Derek Carr was named College Sports Madness’ National Player of the Week and the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his effort Saturday against Jacksonville State.
Carr became the first player in Division I (FBS or FCS) this year to throw for seven touchdowns in a single game twice as the senior tossed seven touchdown passes in UT Martin’s 49-47 victory over Jacksonville State.
The win pushed the Skyhawks to 5-1 in OVC play, which ties them for first place with two weeks to play.
Carr completed 28-of-43 passes for 402 yards and the seven touchdowns without an interception.
Carr became UTM’s all-time leader in total offense (7,767), a mark that now ranks seventh in OVC history.
