Networks lead way in hurricane relief

Posted: Tuesday, November 6, 2012 8:00 pm

By Associated Press
Barbara Walters and George Stephanopoulos are taking out their checkbooks for Superstorm Sandy relief on ABC’s “Day of Giving.”
ABC said Monday that Walters donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross and Stephanopoulos kicked in $50,000.
Throughout its programming Monday, the network urged viewers to give money to the organization to help victims of the storm, which hit New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area particularly hard.
Through early afternoon, ABC had raised more than $10 million.
NBC held a telethon on Friday for storm victims that raised nearly $23 million. It included performances by artists native to the areas hardest-hit by Sandy, including New Jersey natives Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Joel of New York’s Long Island.
MTV, home of the “Jersey Shore” reality show, plans to air a fundraising special to help rebuild New Jersey’s devastated shoreline.
The one-hour program will air Nov. 15 from MTV’s Times Square studio in New York City. It will feature the cast of “Jersey Shore” along with other guests.
