GLEASON – Jack Dunning presided over his last city board meeting as Gleason’s mayor Thursday.
Dunning was presented with a plaque in appreciation of his service to the city.
He was defeated in the Nov. 6 election by alderman Diane Poole, who takes office Dec. 1.
Gleason aldermen, including Poole, encouraged Dunning to continue his support for the city.
In other news from the meeting:
Officer King of the Gleason Police Department reported that one juvenile petition and 46 traffic citations were issued in Gleason in the last month. Twenty-one warrants were issued by the Weakley County Circuit Court – all misdemeanors, King said.
Doris Owen, a concerned Gleason citizen, suggested the city provide land for community garden space. Owen said there are private grants available.
“With food prices going up all the time, community gardens could help feed the people,” Owen said. “It’s something that adults and children can do together.”
Dunning said that Owen’s suggestion could not be voted or acted on at the time because it was not on the current meeting agenda. Once it is, Dunning said the board would consider the idea.
