Vols’ Maymon out
for all November

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee forward Jeronne Maymon will probably miss at least the rest of Tennessee’s November games as he continues to recover from arthroscopic knee surgery.
Maymon had a setback in his recovery that prevented him from playing Friday in the Vols’ season-opening 76-67 victory over Kennesaw State. Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin said Monday he didn’t expect the 6-foot-7 senior to return in November, though he offered no further timetable.
Tennessee faces UNC Asheville on Thursday in its first of three games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. After returning from Puerto Rico, the Vols host Oakland on Nov. 26 and play at Georgetown on Nov. 30.
Maymon averaged 12.7 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds last season to earn second-team all-Southeastern Conference honors.

SEC lauds Manziel
for beating Bama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week.
Manziel produced  345 total yards and two passing touchdowns to lead the Aggies to an upset of Alabama.
Defensive backs D.J. Swearinger of South Carolina and LSU’s Craig Loston share league defensive honors.
Swearinger had 13 tackles and scored on a 69-yard interception return against Arkansas. Loston had a 100-yard interception return against Mississippi State.
Missouri kicker Andrew Baggett and Florida’s Loucheiz Purifoy share special teams honors.
Baggett kicked the game-winning 35-yard field goal in the fourth overtime to beat Tennessee.
Purifoy blocked a punt with two seconds left against Louisiana-Lafeyette that Jelani Jenkins returned 36 yards for the game-winning TD.  Published in The Messenger 11.13.12
