Honors piling up
for Skyhawk gridders

UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, while seniors Jason McNair and Quentin Sims have picked up OVC and national awards.
The Robinson award goes to the FCS Coach of the Year.
Simpson guided UTM to an 8-3 overall mark and 6-2 conference record.
Simpson is among 20 finalists, and the winner will be announced on Dec. 17.
Sims and McNair are College Football Performance Awards National Players of the Week, Sims as a receiver and McNair as a return specialist.
Sims has also been named adidas OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness’ top offensive player in the OVC.
Sims caught eight passes for 176 yards, and McNair had a 75-yard return for a touchdown in UTM’s 35-26 win over Tennessee State.

Nation’s top squads
defeat UTM women

UT Martin posted losses against two of the top women’s teams in the nation and suffered a three-overtime setback in men’s action over the weekend.
The Skyhawk women fell to defending national champion Baylor 82-67 and current No. 1-ranked Stanford 92-68 in addition to a 73-69 loss to Hawaii in the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu.
Junior guards Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome scored 74 and 61 points, respectively, to lead the UTM women.
UTM’s men lost 77-73 to Arkansas State at home on Friday.
Justin Childs scored 21 points for the Skyhawk men (1-3).
The UTM men host Lyon College tonight.
