Vols’ TE arrested
on drinking charges
KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee tight end Brendan Downs has been arrested on charges of underage consumption and public intoxication.
Downs was arrested Sunday at about 1 a.m. Sgt. Rick Eastridge of the Knoxville Police Department said the manager of a Knoxville club escorted Downs outside for being underage and drinking. Downs then created a disturbance by becoming loud and using profane language, Eastridge said.
Tennessee athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton said the university was aware of the situation and was gathering facts about it. Stanton said the matter would be handled internally.
Downs, a sophomore from Bristol, caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown this year. Tennessee ended its season Saturday with a 37-17 victory over Kentucky.

LEXINGTON (AP) — Kentucky’s Archie Goodwin is the SEC’s Freshman of the Week after leading Wildcat wins over Morehead State and LIU-Brooklyn.
He averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in both victories.
